Why You Should "Ski the Fish"
I’ll never forget the first time I skied at Whitefish Mountain Resort, Montana. The powder was up to my knees and the trees looked like they were straight out of Candyland. My friends and I whooped our way down Big Mountain and couldn’t stop smiling.
Whitefish is known for its snow (812 cm / 320 inches per season), and recently took the “Number 3 Overall” spot of best ski resorts in the US. Besides epic powder – it’s pretty much a powder day every day – you can expect a laid-back vibe, friendly staff, and incredible views of Glacier National Park. With four terrain parks, a skier/boardercross course, and ample tree and bowl skiing on 3,000 acres, skiers of all levels will love this mountain.
When it’s time to refuel and recharge, there are several on-mountain dining options. Ed & Mully’s is even open late for the night skiers (with live music on Saturday nights!). Night skiing is available on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 pm – 8:30 pm, and nightly from December 26 – 31, 2019, and February 14 – 16, 2020.
Families will enjoy how affordable Whitefish is. Some of the deals offered this season include:
- Ski & Stay at Grouse Mountain Lodge from $99/person/night (book by December 6, 2019 for 2019/2020 ski season). The package also includes complimentary shuttle service to the mountain and downtown Whitefish.
- Multi-day ski packages for $76 per day for two or more days (purchase 48 hours in advance),
- Learn to Ski/Ride package: two days of lower mountain lift tickets, two days of equipment rentals and two half-day lessons for only $85. Ages 7 & up, must be first-timers.
- All day daycare for $82.
Whitefish Nightlife
After a fantastic day on the slopes, head into Whitefish. This charming little town has an eclectic collection of eateries and a lively night scene that offers tons of options for après-ski fun. Try the shrimp and grits at Tupelo Grille, paninis at Zucca Marketplace Bistro, or Rocky Mountain Rainbow Trout at Logan’s Grill. It’s easy to get around with the free S.N.O.W. (shuttle network of Whitefish) Bus.

Grouse Mountain Lodge, minutes from downtown Whitefish and only 12.8 kilometres / 8 miles from Whitefish Mountain Resort, is your base camp for adventure. Refuel at Logan’s Grill, warm up in the sauna or outdoor hot tub, workout at the 24-hour gym, or swim before retiring to your beautifully-appointed room. Whitefish is one of my favourite places to ski as a family. My parents met at the ski hill in 1964 so it is a very special place for us! It is such a great family mountain with tons to do in a fabulous town. A weekend away there would be incredible.
