About Orage
Orage has been making high quality ski wear in Montreal since 1989. What started out as the love child of Evelyn Trempe’s passion for skiing and fashion (she first crafted ski pants and jackets for friends and the University ski team in her parent’s garage), soon bloomed into a big business. Orage outerwear, base layers, midlayers, and accessories can now be found in ski stores across Canada. Whether you want some sweet bib pants for the backcountry, down pants, or a trendy coat for urban exploring, Orage has got you covered! Women’s, Men’s, and Youth (size 7-16) collections are available.
While a lot has changed since the company first started, it has maintained its goal to “keep you warm, dry, comfortable, and most importantly, looking like no one else around.” Orage achieves this by pairing fresh, modern designs with high quality materials such as recycled polyester and Primaloft, fluorine-free C0 eco DWR, non-toxic Oeko-Tex fabrics, and Responsible Down.
Here is my review of the Orage Polar Hooded Down Jacket, an awesome outer or mid layer for skiing, hiking, and more.
Partnership Disclosure: Orage provided me with a jacket for review purposes, but all words and opinions are my own.
Orage Polar Hooded Down Jacket Review
The Orage Polar Hooded Down Jacket has everything I look for in a down jacket:
- Athletic fit allows you to wear the jacket with layers underneath, or use the jacket as a mid-layer in extreme temperatures.
- Loft without minimal bulk
- Zippered pockets: 2 handwarmer + 1 inner chest pocket
- Fitted hood with stretchy hem keeps your head cozy warm
- Zipper garage at chin for comfort
- YKK zippers with zipper pulls so you can open/close your jacket with mittens on
- Stretchy material on wrists and lower hemline to keep cold drafts out
- Recycled nylon shell + Responsible Down insulation
750 Powerfill Responsible Duck Down (90% down, 10% feathers) provides a lot of warmth for its weight. At only 317 grams (XS Women’s), you can bring the Polar Hooded Down Jacket on all your adventures! For your convenience, the Polar Jacket can be stuffed into an internal pocket or the included ultralight (10 gram) stuff sack.
With a 100% recycled nylon shell, you can feel better about your designed-in-Canada purchase. Orage’s recycled nylon is Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certified.
Regarding fit, I found the size chart to be accurate, so if you check your measurements before you order, you’ll get the right size. The jacket has room for layers, but isn’t so big that cold air seeps in (the stretchy hems help prevent that), and the arms have a good range of motion.
Last but not least, the Orage Polar Jacket looks amazing with its unique baffle design across the chest and vibrant color (also available in black if you prefer). It can go from town to trail and keep you warm while looking good! Pair with the MTN-X-Zenith 3L Shell Jacket for the perfect all-weather ski system!
From exploring the ice bubbles at Abraham Lake, to urban and mountain trails, the Orage Polar Jacket has kept me toasty warm! I’m looking forward to many more adventures with it!
